Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) has announced recent leadership updates effective immediately, continuing the organizational restructuring initiated in September 2022 and carried through to 2024.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Technology:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carrie Mills has been promoted to Vice President & Chief Information Security Officer\u2014Cybersecurity from her previous role as Vice President Technology, Cybersecurity. In her new capacity, Mills assumes responsibility for all cybersecurity aspects across Southwest’s facilities, airports, and aircraft. This encompasses security engineering, operations, incident response, threat intelligence, risk and compliance, and vulnerability management. She will continue to lead the Cybersecurity Team, overseeing daily operations and spearheading key initiatives including Privileged Access Management, Technology Data Privacy, expansion of Multi-Factor Authentication, Vulnerability Management, and Incident Response and Recovery. Mills, who joined Southwest in 2017, has been instrumental in enhancing the airline’s cybersecurity posture through initiatives such as establishing a Security Operations Center (SOC), implementing Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) capabilities, and deploying advanced technologies for vulnerability management and endpoint detection and response. Mills holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Oklahoma and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

With Mills’ new role, Jim Dayton transitions from Vice President & CISO Technology\u2014Platforms & Architecture to Vice President Technology\u2014Platforms & Architecture. Dayton’s focus now shifts to developing modern foundational data and technology platforms utilized by Development Teams, including Cloud and DevOps development platforms and enterprise data platforms for analytics, optimization, integration, data lake, and data warehouse. Additionally, Dayton leads the Technology Architecture function, ensuring the technical design of Southwest’s systems prioritizes resiliency, security, and effectiveness.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Prior to his current role, Dayton held the position of Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), where he supervised cybersecurity operations throughout Southwest Airlines’ activities. He previously held roles as Vice President, Technology\u2013Operations Portfolio, supporting critical operating systems such as Flight Operations, Inflight Operations, Network Operations Control (NOC), Safety & Security, and Technical Operations. Dayton has been with Southwest since 2012 and has contributed significantly to various areas of technology, including Operations Recovery, Network Planning, Revenue Management, and leading the multi-year Reservation System implementation. Prior to joining Southwest Airlines, Dayton held leadership roles at companies such as PeopleSoft, i2 Technologies, Oracle, and Capital One Auto Finance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
