Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, in a virtual event, initiated the first flight of FLY91, an airline initiative led by aviation industry expert Manoj Chacko. This maiden flight bridged Mopa in Goa with Agatti in Lakshadweep, signaling a significant step forward for regional travel. While FLY91 is set to officially commence its commercial operations on March 18, linking Goa with major cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, plans are in place to further extend services to include direct flights from Goa to Agatti Island in Lakshadweep by mid-April. This expansion promises to be a boon for travel and tourism, offering an alternative to the currently sole flight route to Lakshadweep operated by Alliance Air from Kochi.
Under the leadership of Manoj Chacko, FLY91’s Managing Director and CEO, the airline has been described as the “world’s most well-capitalized regional carrier.” This ambitious venture received its air operator’s certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 6, allowing it to operate under the brand Fly91 by Just Udo Aviation Pvt Ltd. The upcoming start of ticket sales anticipates the launch of commercial flights, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing travel connectivity within India. Chacko’s vision for FLY91 extends to a five-year plan aiming to incorporate 35 aircraft into the fleet and establish connections with 50 cities across the nation.
Starting March 18, FLY91’s operational blueprint includes commercial flights from Goa to Bengaluru and Hyderabad, with additional services connecting Bengaluru and Hyderabad with Sindhudurg. The announcement of initiating flights to Lakshadweep from Goa in mid-April further underscores the airline’s commitment to expanding travel networks. Such developments are not only expected to enhance the travel and tourism industry by providing more accessible and varied travel options but also to stimulate economic growth in the connected regions. Manoj Chacko’s strategic expansion plans for FLY91 over the next five years highlight a forward-thinking approach to revolutionizing regional air travel in India, making the nation’s vast and diverse destinations more reachable than ever before.
